Touchstone Exploration (Trinidad) Ltd – Ortorie Block (2017-Ongoing)
Upstream has completed 22 km 2D seismic (2021). Upstream has completed five (5) CEC applications for drilling exploration wells on the Ortorie Block which represents twenty two (22) wells and the construction of a mulit-wll surface production facility. The five (5) CECs have been approved. Upstream management roles include:
Lease Operators Limited – Rio Claro Block and Balata East Block (2014-Ongoing)
Upstream has been the de facto contract operator of the Rio Claro Block. This included the full management and execution of the Minimum Work Obligations, and ongoing Exploration. Upstream compiled and delivered the TCM and OCM presentations to the regulators for this block.
Upstream also manage the permitting procedures for Lease Operators Limited on the development of the Balata East Field within the Rio Claro Block of Eastern Trinidad. The specific location of the field required Upstream to manoeuvre nationally recognized Environmentally Sensitive Area requirements and RAMSAR sites located adjacent to the exploration field.
Upstream management roles include:
Atlantic LNG Water Disposal Well Project – (2019)
Upstream was tasked by Atlantic LNG Company of Trinidad and Tobago (ALNG) with conducting a feasibility study regarding a water disposal well for up to 1000bwpd.
The objective was to identify either a downdip oil water contact or the water leg of either a continuous low pressure porous and permeable depleted oil bearing sandstone reservoir or water bearing sandstone reservoir in a favourable structural downdip position to updip commercial production within the said time-equivalent reservoir which is most likely plumbed into the regional hydrodynamics beneath the footprint of the ALNG Facility in which effluent could be injected into.
Range Resources (Trinidad) Limited – Morne Diablo Farmout Block, St. Mary’s Block (2014-2016)
Upstream obtained the Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC) for the drilling of sixty (60) shallow wells for Crude Oil and / or Natural Gas Production within Morne Diablo Farmout Block (Block A) Quinam. Upstream also conducted field work for the Environmental Audit Report on the St. Mary’s Block and Ad hoc consultancy on water flood project on their Beach Marcelle Block.
Parex Resources (Trinidad) Ltd. – Central Range Block (2008-2013)
For the Central Range Block operator and their partners, Upstream established the Trinidad project team for execution of the Production Sharing Contract work program. This involved regulatory and statutory permitting for the work programs, strategic consulting on seismic operations and airborne geophysics, environmental permit acquisition and baseline study, resolution of land and legal issues related to the mineral rights, exploration drilling studies, and contracting of multiple equipment and material purchases. We executed a successful 215 km 2D seismic program in 2009, which was followed by a 56 km 2D in 2012-2013. We have designed and surveyed five drilling locations and constructed two for Parex. In addition, Upstream conducted a land search to identify private mineral holdings within the block and continue to provide personnel for public relations activities at drilling sites.
Voyager Energy (Trinidad) Ltd. – Guayaguayare Block (2009 – 2012)
Upstream was the seismic front end contractor on this 170 km2 3D project in southern Trinidad. Upstream performed the field surveying, line preparation, drilling, and layout/pickup on the project. We also were the day-to-day project manager, contracted all skilled and semi-skilled labour, and ran the base camp operations. The project took place from May 2011 to April 2012. The 3D area included some extreme mountainous terrain, which required special operational techniques including mountaineers, roping of routes, and special logistics. An offshore air gun source was used to increase fold over the land area.
Also for Voyager, Upstream conducted a land and legal investigation to determine the subsurface ownership of the onshore portion of the block. Upstream performed environmental permitting, conducted baseline studies, and prepared an Environmental Management Plan. We advised Voyager on operational issues within the block and their start-up strategy.
Sorgenia E&P SpA – Goudron E&P Limited – Goudron Field (2011)
For Sorgenia, Upstream managed a due diligence assessment of the Goudron Field. The project involved rig work on seven active and inactive wells within the field – preparation of wells for cased hole logging, fluid level measurements, and installation of PCP pumps. Upstream managed all aspects of the work including contracting, logistics, and field supervision. In addition, Upstream conducted a review of the environmental permitting requirements, prepared a consents and approvals register, and provided strategic support on cost estimating and budgets.
BG Trinidad and Tobago / Shell Trinidad Limited – Central Block (2004-Present)
Following BGTT’s acquisition of the Central Block, Upstream provided consulting on a host of technical, regulatory, and business decisions. These included:
Isegen South Africa (Pty) Ltd. – Point Lisas Petrochemical Plant (2006-2009)
Upstream developed the Isegen petrochemical plant project from its inception. This included consulting on strategic business issues, negotiations with various government entities in Trinidad and Tobagoto promote and gain acceptance of the joint venture. Basic agreements were reached with the National Energy Corporation, the National Gas Company, the Natural Gas Export Strategic Task Force and Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited. Project planning, feasibility studies, economics, contracts and associated permitting were conducted. This project has been on hold since the financial crisis of 2008.
Talisman (Trinidad) Petroleum Limited – Eastern Block (2001-2004)
Upstream played a key role in the efforts of Talisman (Trinidad) Petroleum Limited to explore the Eastern Block. This included initial assistance with the licence acquisition, setup of the joint venture, and establishment of the corporate presence and operating entity in Trinidad. Upstream managed Talisman’s 350 km23D seismic project over two years, including overall project management, statutory and landowner permitting, government relations, development and implementation of the procurement and labour strategy, logistics, quality control, HSE, and all aspects of field operations. Upstream also acquired all of the environmental permits for Talisman, overcoming significant resistance from the regulators and environmental community since a portion of the seismic project was within the Nariva Swamp Ramsar Site, a protected area. During the exploratory drilling phase, Upstream project managed all road and drilling location construction operations.
Vermilion Oil and Gas Trinidad Ltd. – Central Block (2001-2004)
Upstream project managed the drilling of the Carapal Ridge 1 and production pipeline to NGC. This included all the regulatory approvals, environmental strategy, CEC's, public relations, community relations, base line studies, EIA's and environmental compliance, and final reports. Upstream coordinated the handover from Vermilion to BGTT who purchased the asset in 2004.

Upstream acted as the de factoOperators of the Central Block for Cometra Trinidad Ltd., an onshore JV formed in 1999. Ultimately, Cometra was sold following the largest onshore discovery in Trinidadin 50 years, the Carapal Ridge Field. Services performed over three years included management of a 3D seismic project in the eastern portion of the block and the drilling of three wells, including the Carapal and Baraka discoveries. This included regulatory approvals, project management of seismic and drilling operations, field HSE, field evaluations and assessments, and scouting and general oilfield reconnaissance. The project also resulted in the first modern environmental approval in onshore Trinidad, including preparation of base-line studies and EIAs – both in advance of the enactment of environmental legislation in Trinidad and Tobago.
