E&P Management Consulting

Upstream offers management consulting to exploration and production companies operating in Trinidad. Our services are tailored to company needs and can range from management and technical evaluation of specific oilfield exploration and development projects, to acting as the company’s overall operating entity in Trinidad.

New Business Originators

Upstream has been involved in Trinidad’s development of the onshore public/private joint ventures since their inception. We have played an integral part in the SW Penninsula, the Central Block, Eastern Block, the Central Range Block, and more recently the Guayaguayare Block, the Ortoire Block, the Rio Claro Block and the Balata East concessions over the last 20 years.

Project Management of Seismic Programs

Upstream is an experienced manager of onshore seismic programs in Trinidad. We are intimately familiar with all aspects of these projects including definition of geophysical objectives and parameters, contracting strategy and Invitations to Tender, operating efficiency in the field, HSE compliance, labour management, security, explosives procurement and logistics, government approvals, and landowner permitting. We project managed the TED 2D in 1998, the Cometra Central Block 3D, the BG 3D, and the Talisman 3D. We project managed the Suriname near-shore shallow streamer survey in 2015.

Onshore Seismic Contracting

Upstream has developed considerable skills over the years in onshore seismic acquisition and is a fully capable local seismic contractor for 2D and 3D projects. We consider our specialty to be conventional seismic in man-portable jungle projects. In 2009, we completed our first all-inclusive seismic contract for the Central Range Block 2D shoot. In 2011, our seismic workload included front end services (survey, line prep, drilling), project management and base camp for the 170 km2 Guayaguayare 3D, including an offshore component. This was followed by a 56 km Central Range Block 2D. We planned the 2D surveys for the Rio Claro Block and Ortoire Blocks. We executed the Rio Claro Block 2D and managed the processing of this data and the reprocessing of related SBC lines.  Our resources include a team of experts in all phases of seismic acquisition operations, a roster of tried and tested crew members, and ownership of a complete inventory of equipment for onshore seismic acquisition.

Project Management of Onshore Exploration Blocks

Upstream has been involved in the geotechnical evaluation of several onshore JV blocks and the drilling of several exploration and development wells in Trinidad. We have existing relationships with seasoned drilling engineers and wellsite personnel who have extensive experience in the challenging Trinidad drilling environment.

Environmental Consulting and Permitting

Since submitting the first Environmental Impact Assessment ever in Trinidad, Upstream has been at the forefront of environmental permitting, particularly on seismic and drilling projects. To date, Upstream has acquired more than 20 CECs for onshore and offshore oil and gas projects, and we consider ourselves unrivalled at timely and complete environmental permitting.

E&P Statutory and Residential Permitting

As a result of Upstream’s experience in oil and gas development, we have developed significant expertise in government approvals. Typically, a host of approvals is necessary for any seismic, civils, or drilling project, and Upstream has a wealth of experience with all state and municipal regulators in Trinidad. Upstream has also conducted landowner permitting and public relations for several seismic projects of up to 6,000 residents.

Oilfield Accounting Services

Upstream has an established practice of accounting for oilfield projects in Trinidadwithin our niche. We are equally adept at accounting for the full financial requirements of the Operator, or simply the extensive book-keeping of an oilfield project. We also specialize in the specific needs of our offshore customers by keeping them abreast of local accounting procedures and laws, and to help plan a proper tax strategy.

Labour Contracting

Upstream has acted as the contractor for labour on seismic projects, and will continue to pursue this business on future projects. Our unique ability is to transparently and fairly negotiate labour compensation and management going into a seismic project, so as to lessen the impact of labour issues as the project is executed. Crisis management is a required skill on any labour intensive operation. Upstream has significant and relevant experience within our niche.

Design and Construction of Oilfield Roads and Locations

Upstream has a particular skill in the scouting, design and construction of appropriate oilfield roads and drilling locations. We have been involved in the construction of many roads/locations/etc. over the years, most involving difficult terrain and need the application of the best experience in order to get the job done on time and on budget and without HSSE incident. We pride ourselves on our ability to meet these goals.
